No two days in the life of an Account Executive are ever the same, whether it’s logging coverage, selling into media or writing a press release – we’re always on the go! To give you an insight into what being an Account Executive is really like, here’s a summary of what a typical day looks like for me.
First things first, it’s down to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee as no day starts well without caffeine! With brew in hand, I sit down at my desk at 8:30 am, go through my emails and write my ‘to do’ list for the day. However, as we’re kept on our toes with client and journalist requests, it’s likely that my list won’t look the same by the time it gets to 5:30pm. I then pick up a copy of one of the day’s papers and go through to identify any news stories that might be relevant for our clients. We all get together at around 9am to share what stories we’ve found. It’s also around this time in the morning that I log all the coverage that has been achieved in the media and share our successes with our clients. Today it’s a piece in one of the national newspapers which is always a big win!
It’s now time to speak to the media. This is a key part of our job and you will often find Account Executives and me on our phones in the mornings. When I first started the job, calling journalists was a daunting prospect but now it feels like second nature. We chat through our press release or arrange to meet them in person over a coffee to chat about how we can create content that works for their readers. Today I’m speaking to media about a new restaurant opening and following up with journalists and bloggers who are coming along to our cocktail masterclass that we’re hosting later in the week.
I’m tasked with proofreading an opinion piece on the gender pay gap that was written by one of our clients. Working across lots of different sectors can be a bit of a balancing act but you do find that you become an expert in these topics
No day is complete without doing some writing of some sort, which is my personal favourite part of the job. Whether it’s a press release, posts for social media or blog post, there’s always something to be getting on with. Today I’m tasked with proofreading an opinion piece on the gender pay gap that was written by one of our clients. Working across lots of different sectors can be a bit of a balancing act but you do find that you become an expert in these topics which, from experience, can come in handy at a quiz night or when you’re watching The Chase!
Now I’m through with the morning tasks, it’s on to the afternoon. Today we’re having training on blogger and influencer marketing over lunch with pizza involved, which we usually find helps aid concentration! We regularly work with bloggers and influencers across our campaigns so it’s important that we all keep up to date on the best ways of approaching them.
As Account Executives, we’re often tasked with finding random items for campaigns such as a parrot, Daenerys Targaryen lookalike and Stavros Flatley to name a few…
The Christmas tree and decorations are finally up and the festive season is well underway. It has been a team effort and we’ve all been round the office and selected our secret Santa ahead of the office Christmas party in a couple of weeks. This afternoon I’m continuing in the festive spirit by organising Christmas mailers for journalists. We’ve been researching where to buy personalised Santa sacks and ribbon, and ordering in the gifts. As Account Executives, we’re often tasked with finding random items for campaigns such as a parrot, Daenerys Targaryen lookalike and Stavros Flatley to name a few, but today’s search was more conventional. Much like Christmas elves, next week will no doubt be spent wrapping and posting off the mailers to their recipients.
There’s never a dull moment as an Account Executive at Lucre and if you enjoy working in a fast-paced, creative and friendly environment, this is the job for you!
